I'm pretty new to this blogging thing. So I'm a little slow getting out of the gate, and now I'm reading and hearing over the internet that blogging is now taking a backseat to video. Geez, wouldn't you know that would be my luck. Maybe I'll be a little faster catching on to that.
With this first blog I thought I'd give you a little background information. I don't really like talking about myself and my intention is not to sound like a resume either, so bear with me. I consider myself a personal development junkie. It's just an area that I've been naturally drawn to since high school.
I heard a story recently, I don't remember all the details but the jist of it was, about a tiger cub adopted by a group of sheep and as it grew, it learned to live like a sheep. It tried to baa like a sheep but it didn't quite feel or sound right. One day when the tiger was older he could hear the faint roar of a group tigers. The flock of sheep began to run the other direction, of course he ran away along with the sheep, as he thought he was one too. Yet he had a feeling deep inside, the roar felt so familiar to him, like it was pulling him. But he was a sheep, his flock was comfortable and all he had ever known. So he continued on, never knowing what could have been.
A friend that I was with that day told me, "You are just like that tiger in the story". (except when I heard the roar, I stopped to listen) I took that as a great compliment.
I do want to clarify one thing. I didn't leave my current life or my responsibilities. I left my comfort zone, and I've done it many times since. Everytime it's hard, it's scary, it's unknown territory with no guarantees and sometimes it can come with a heafty price tag.
One thing I do know, I will be forever grateful for listening to that faint far away voice and not chickening out back in 1996.
The ripple affect of that one step, led me not only to genuine friendships and connections with people of all walks of life from all over the country, but incredible learning opportunities, a tremendous boost in confidence and self-esteem, a positive example for my children to see that anything is possible no matter what your personal circumstances, and the really great part is all the steps and stumbles along the way (and yes, there were many, many stumbles!) have led me to this amazing career I now have.
What is your true passion? Are you listening to your faint far way voice?
~Brenda ;)
