Who would have ever thought we could learn something from Mr.Bill?
Mr. Bill is a character made from clay. Developed by that creative crew from the early days of Saturday Night Live. Bad luck always managed to find it's way to poor Mr.Bill, sketch after sketch he was constantly getting smashed, thrown out windows, falling from buildings or being flattened on a city street by a passing truck.
Mr.Bill has now made a resurgence into pop culture, by partnering with Mastercard and their trademark, "priceless" ad campaign.
The commercial itself has placed this unlucky clay character in a variety of painful situations where he somehow finds the positive benefit to his misfortunes. For example at one point he get hot coffee spilled all over his feet and his response is "I've always wanted brown shoes!" At another point he gets hit and goes flying through a busy gym. When he lands on the edge of a treadmill, he realizes how lucky he is that he has found the open one! The commercial ends with him getting bumped by a briefcase, falling out a window and ending up flattened on the front of a passing bus window. What was the benefit to that? He caught the bus on time!
Talk about making the best of a bad situation! When you're having one of those days... and we all have them. It's all about how we choose to respond and it tends to set the tone for the rest of our day. Sometimes it's easier said than done. More often than not we have to stop and make a conscious decision how we want to react - how to re-frame our thought. As with many people it's a lot easier to have a poor me type of thinking attached. Just because it's apart of the society most of us live in.
How are you responding to the events in your life?
