As I sat down to type up today's blog, I was having a bit of a brain freeze, when my teenage daughter came in the room.
She was eager to offer suggestions, but nothing seemed to be clicking with me. I have to give her an A for effort, as each time I shot something down she came back with another. It's not that her ideas were bad, I was just challenged how to stretch it to 200 words. 200 words really isn't that much, but today it felt huge.
Trying to help narrow her ideas down I told her I needed to keep my topic in line with personal development coaching. With that she says, "Life and sports are kind of the same.... you have to learn the basics before you can improve." Boom - Bam!! (apparently that's what they say on her volleyball team) She was on to something!
I wasn't sure exactly what she said after that, something about how "you can't just rush in thinking your gonna win.... bump, set, spike..." That's all I heard and it made perfect sense!
Think about life, your career, your goals in volleyball terms:
Bump! - you're poised and ready, you hit the ball with a mix of confidence and trepidation as when stepping out to begin your new venture.
Set! - your team member's assist - in other words your support system, friends, family, colleagues, and in some cases additional knowledge.
Spike! - It's your turn to really nail that ball! The steps have been put into place and you are confident and ready to take action.
Ace! - You did it! The ball went over the net and the players on the other side missed it. You score! You have reached that goal that you have worked so hard for, after all the long practices and sometimes losses. Occasionally you may have hit the net, but it only allowed you to learn from your mistakes and made you stronger.
Boom-Bam!! ;)

Boom - Bam!! Love it! I have a feeling that you're rubbing off on your daughter more than you think you are!
200 words, huh? Is that what the rule of thumb is for a blog?
